Better Looking Smiles Might Require Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is one of the popular fields of dentistry today as it helps to improve one's aesthetic appearance. Aside from basic dentistry practice, a cosmetic dentist also performs teeth whitening, dental veneers, fixing or bonding broken teeth as well as implants, crowns and bridges all for the sake of having that perfect smile.

Teeth whitening

The problem is teeth are easily discolored by smoking, colas, coffees, foods and simply by aging. Luckily, in recent years tooth whitening systems have gotten much more affordable and more convenient.Tooth whitening is not for everyone. Teeth discolored yellow, brown or orange respond the best to cosmetic tooth whitening.

Dental veneer

Dental veneer or laminates is a common dental procedure as well which can improve the patient's teeth appearance. Ideal candidates for the procedure are those with gaps between their teeth, crooked or oddly shaped permanently stained teeth and those with teeth that have chipped or are already worn. The procedure involves placing custom shells around the original tooth made of either porcelain or composite resin.

Dental Crowns
A crown, also called as cap restores the original appearance of the tooth. This is ideal for those individuals who have misshapen tooth or worn ones. It covers dental implants as well as protects a tooth after a root canal.

Dental implants, typically made of titanium, are used to restore teeth that are missing. The implants are placed in the root of the missing tooth and are fused into the actual bone. This is done with an incision in the gums, followed by the actual insertion of the implant. Once the dental implant is inserted, the gums are sewn up and time is given to allow the gums and bone to heal appropriately.
